چکیده

A phenomenological model of a system of antiferromagnetically correlated spins is shown to give a good quantitative description of NMR, nuclear-quadrupole-resonance, and Knight-shift measurements on yttrium, planar copper, and planar oxygen sites in YBa2Cu307. The antiferromagnetic correlation length is estimated to be-2. 5 lattice constants at T =100 K. The temperature dependence of the correlation length ceases at T " =100K. The enhancement of the observed relaxation rates over what is expected for weakly interacting electrons is calculated and shown to be large. Extension of the calculation to other cuprate superconductors is discussed.

What High Pressure Studies Have Taught Us About High-Temperature Superconductivity

Superconductivity is an important area of modern research which has benefited enormously from experiments under high pressure conditions. The focus of this paper will be on three classes of high-temperature superconductors: (1) the new binary compound MgB2, (2) the alkali-doped fullerenes, and (3) the cuprate oxides. We will discuss results from experiment and theory which illustrate the kinds ...

Recent Advances in High-Temperature Superconductivity

After more than 15 years of intense research since the discovery of high-temperature superconductivity [1], many interesting physical phenomena unique to the cuprate superconductors are better understood, and various applications have been realized. However, the underlying mechanism for high-temperature superconductivity remains elusive, largely due to the complication of numerous competing ord...

Isotope effects in high-Tc cuprate superconductors as support for the bipolaron theory of superconductivity

We provide a unified parameter-free explanation of the observed oxygen-isotope effects on the critical temperature, the magnetic-field penetration depth and on the normal-state pseudogap for underdoped cuprate superconductors within the framework of the multi-(bi)polaron theory with strong Coulomb and Fröhlich interactions. We also quantitatively explain the measured critical temperature and th...

Temperature dependence of the superconductivity-induced collective mode in the c-axis infrared spectra of bilayer cuprate superconductors

The low-temperature spectra of the c-axis infrared conductivity of bilayer high-Tc cuprate superconductors (HTCS) exhibit two superconductivity-induced modes [Li Yu et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 100 (2008) 177004; and references therein]. Both can be understood in terms of a microscopic theory developed recently [J. Chaloupka, C. Bernhard, D. Munzar, Phys. Rev. B 79 (2009) 184513]. Here we summarize...

Quantum Mott Transition and Multi-Furcating Criticality

Phenomenological theory of the Mott transition is presented. When the critical temperature of the Mott transition is much higher than the quantum degeneracy temperature, the transition is essentially described by the Ising universality class. Below the critical temperature, phase separation or first-order transition occurs. However, if the critical point is involved in the Fermi degeneracy regi...
